|
The overall theme will be a student centered approach, that builds on the ideas from English Workshop 1. Personal motivation and goals will be discussed. Each student will create their English learning goals for the course, and for their immediate future.

概要 Synopsis
|
The course will focus on why we study a language, and what are our motivations. The first classes will talk about this, and short term goals will be discussed. Students will work in small groups and in pairs to do projects, skits, speeches, and round table discussion. Moodle will be used to view video clips and various internet resources, and as a place to comment on various topics that the class will be working on.

It is hoped that by the end of the course students have a increased fluency, and strong motivation to continue their study of English.

|
The class will have a relaxed and easygoing style. The goal is to both learn and enjoy the process. Students will engage in skits, pair work, and presentations. Work will be done both in class, and on the university Moodle web page.

This class will meet Tuesdays during first period. The class contents and each week’s topic will be posted on the Aichi University Moodle page. The schedule below will give an idea of the overall structure of the course. It should be noted that these topics are subject to change.
Class 1: Introductions, and brief summary of English Workshop 1 Class 2: Goals and motivations: Short vs long term learning goals Class 3: Short speech on why we study a language, and our personal language learning goals.. Class 4: Learning Resources: Brief survey of some of the tools that help us learn English (YouTube,ESL websites, smartphone apps...) Class 5 : How to give a presentation : A basic overview of giving presentations. Class 6 : Students will give an informal mini presentation on an internet related learning resource. Class 7 : Review of classes 1-6. Students will look at what they learned, and discuss their short term English learning goals. Class 8: Midterm quiz Class 9: Presentation ideas. Students will ‘brainstorm’ final presentation topics. Class 10: Fluency exercises: Students will work on their speed and pronunciation through pair work. Class 11: Presentation practice: Everyone will rehearse and work on their presentations. Class 12: Hunger and Poverty in the World : Why it affects all of us, and what can be done about it. Class 13: Responsible Consumption : The class will look at things like fast fashion, right to repair legislation, and our role in a consumer society. Class 14: Students’ presentations Class 15: Reflections on the course, and a quiz.

準備学習・事後学習 Preparation, review
|
To prepare for class, students are expected to check the Moodle site, and review the material on it. New words, and phrases should be noted, and practiced. After each class, students are asked to focus on doing the assignment, and also going over the material that was taught in class. At least 1 hour for preparation before class, and 1 hour after class for review is expected.

Classes will be conducted in the assigned classroom. There are no outside activities planned.

成績評価の方法と基準 Evaluation&criteria
|
The course evaluation is based on Moodle quizzes (20%), and homework submitted on Moodle (20%). In addition there also be presentations (20%) given in the class. The remainder of the mark will be based on a midterm quiz(20%), and a final exam(20%).

定期試験期間中の試験実施方法 Exam period
|
定期試験期間中には筆記試験を実施しない。No exams are required during the exam period.

|
Written feedback will be given in Moodle, and also in class ‘in the moment ‘.
