テーマ Learning skills for communication in Englsih, with an emphasis on imrpoving listening and speaking skills.  
概要 This class meets two times a week. Students will engage with multimedia content in English. They will express what they learned about the content through interacting with classmates and the teacher. Students will also prepare notes in advance to participate in such interactions.  
到達目標 Students will develop confidence as an English learner. Students will develop strategies for further learning.  
授業形態 Each week on Tuesday and Thursday, students will engage with multimedia content such as video clips. Students will watch and listen to short clips from movies or other sources. They will also participate in short writing and speaking activities. They will be asked to do homework such as writing notes for the next class or watching video content online or in the Language Center. The teacher will use English almost all of the time.  
内容・スケジュール Week 1: Introduction to class contents, learning strategies. Make personal goals. Become familiar with classmates. Learn to use Language Center.
Week 2: Begin watching film clips. Group work based on worksheets. Vocabulary work. Small group discussions for comprehension check.
Week 3: Continue watching film clips. New groups created for group work. Comparing worksheet answers. Useful daily conversation phrases introduced.
Week 4: Additional time on watching film clips. Selected scenes chosen for dialogue work and vocabulary check.
Week 5: Review of story and question/answer session. Themes and issues to be discussed.
Week 6: Background information related to film introduced for discussion.
Week 7: Reflections on work done so far. Suggestions about improving listening, speaking, group work.
Week 8: Preparations for group presentation about film. Brainstorming for prsentation topics. Producing outline.
Week 9: Rehearsal for group presentation. Consultations with instructor.
Week 10:Group presentations staged, followed by feedback session.
Week 11: Introducing use of TED.com for listening and reading practice.
Week 12: Assignments related to TED.com episode. Listening tactics, use of transcript.
Week 13: Create own short presentation based on themes in TED talk.
Week 14: Consultation with instructor. Preparations for presentation, transcript check.
Week 15: Presentations, followed by feedback sessions. Reflections on progress and areas for improvement.  
準備学習・事後学習 Students are expected to be prepared by reviewing notes from the previous class, prepare short written assignments for the next class discussion, and occasional use of Language Center.  
学外授業 No classes held off-campus.  
成績評価の方法と基準 Evaluation based on 平常点. Students will be evaluated on their active participation in class, their preparedness for activities, and output in the form of oral reports and presentations as follows:
Worksheets 20%, oral reports 20%, participation in group work 20%, final presentation 40%.

関連する科目、履修者への要望など Students should attend each class and come prepared with assignments and handouts. Courtesy toward the teacher and classmates is expected and no cell phone use is permitted. Active engagement is required in classroom tasks. It is the student's responsibility to find out about homework if she is absent from class.
